SAM HECHT＆KIM COLINサム・ヘクト＆キム・コリン
サム・ヘクトは1969年、ロンドン生まれ。93年ロイヤルカレッジオブアートで修士号を取得。
2002年にパートナーのキム・コリンと共同でIndustrial Facilityを設立する。クライアントに無印良品やIssey Miyakeを持ち、ハーマンミラーではデザインアドバイザーを務める。2010 デザインオブザイヤー受賞。
Sam Hecht and Kim Colin co-founded London-based design studio Industrial Facility in 2002. Their approach reflects both a thoughtful consideration of form and a unique understanding of contemporary life, creating beauty out of utility in the products, furniture and exhibitions they design. Hecht, from London, trained as an industrial designer in London, San Francisco and Tokyo, while Colin, from Los Angeles, trained as an architect in California; together they are considered as one of the most progressive studios in product, furniture and exhibition design. With a roster of pioneering clients, including Muji, Herman Miller, Issey Miyake. Emeco, Epson, Muuto and Wästberg.
Together, they are regarded for both their philosophical and pragmatic approach.
Both Hecht and Colin are Royal Designers for Industry and Fellows of the Royal Society of Arts. Works have been awarded six IF Golds and are held in permanent collections worldwide, including the Cooper Hewitt; the Museum of Modern Art; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; Art Institute of Chicago; Centre Pompidou; the Helsinki Design Museum; and the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Design Museum in London. In 2010 Sam and Kim were awarded the Furniture 'Design of the Year' for their Branca Chair for Mattiazzi, where they are currently art directors. In 2019, Phaidon Press published the monograph Industrial Facility, with their complete works.

木の枝のように、ブランカは見た目に馴染みのある椅子です。
インダストリアル・ファシリティーのサム・ヘクトがデザインを手掛けたブランカは、ロボットによって切り出された一枚板から作られたもので、肘掛け、座面、背板の重要な結合部を後脚が支えています。
結合部は目に見えるものの、継ぎ目のない椅子の一部となっており、実際の構造は複雑であるものの、シンプルな作りに見えます。ブランカは、回転し、折れ曲がり、集まり、分岐する木の枝から着想を得ています。
こうした作りにより、見た目をはじめ、座り心地や手触りも快適です。
LIKE WOODEN BRANCHES OF A TREE, BRANCA IS A CHAIR THAT IS FAMILIAR TO THE EYE.
DESIGNED BY SAM HECHT/ INDUSTRIAL FACILITY, BRANCA IS MADE FROM A SINGLE PIECE OF WOOD PRODUCED ROBOTICALLY AND ITS BACK LEG SUPPORTS THE CRITICAL JOINTS OF THE ARMREST, THE SEAT AND THE BACK.
THE JOINTS ARE SEEN AS BUT A PART OF THE SEAMLESS NATURE OF THE CHAIR AND ITS SIMPLE OUTLINES BELIES THE COMPLEXITY OF PRODUCTION.
BRANCA IS INSPIRED BY WOODEN BRANCHES THAT TURN, TWIST, MEET AND BRANCH OFF. THE RESULT IS COMFORT TO THE EYE, TO THE BODY AND TO THE HAND.
